Neutering in pets
Cats
Female cats can be neutered from around 6 months of age.
Male cats can be castrated from 6 months of age.
Benefits
- Female: no large litters of unwanted kittens if you have no intentions of breeding
- Male: reducing the odours and spraying
Dogs
Female dogs can be spayed from 6 months of age.
Male dogs can be castrated from 6 months of age.
Advantages:
- Less prostate disease, no testicular tumours
- Significant reduction in mammary cancer in bitches spayed before second season
- No roaming in males
- No womb infection in females
Drawback:
- Some pets put weight on after neutering
We also neuter rabbits and ferrets at the practice.
