Neutering in pets

Cats

Female cats can be neutered from around 6 months of age.

Male cats can be castrated from 6 months of age.

Benefits

  • Female: no large litters of unwanted kittens if you have no intentions of breeding
  • Male: reducing the odours and spraying

 

Dogs

Female dogs can be spayed from 6 months of age.

Male dogs can be castrated from 6 months of age.

Advantages:

  • Less prostate disease, no testicular tumours
  • Significant reduction in mammary cancer in bitches spayed before second season
  • No roaming in males
  • No womb infection in females

Drawback:

  • Some pets put weight on after neutering

We also neuter rabbits and ferrets at the practice.
